Macy as 'Bob'?

... While watching this movie, I couldn't get out of my mind how much better a job William H. Macy would've done as "Bob" than Greg Kinnear. What does everybody else think?

I think you heard me jus' fine, 'Punchy'...

Nah. William Macy looks too old and scrawny to play the handsome Bob Crane. He doesn't have that mid-westerner guy-next door appeal that Kinnear has. Plus Kinnear had star quality that Macy lacks as a leading man. Greg Kinnear was brilliant casting I thought. Macy is probably a greater actor than Kinnear and has broader range, but wouldn't have been right here, IMO.

I can't see William H. Macy as Bob Crane. Greg Kinnear is a better match physically/facially. Plus, Kinnear delivers a believable performance throughout most of the movie. I'm trying to imagine how Col. Hogan would react to watching himself having sex on video. The way Kinnear delivers the line, "The t**s on her..." captures the essence of Bob Crane for me. Kinnear was right on the money the last 3/4's of the film. I don't think anyone else could have done it any better. It's only in the beginning, when he's playing "normal Bob," that I thought his performance was a little unstable.

William H. Macy would have been a horrible choice; what are you thinking? He's about as credible as Rodney Dangerfield playing Bob Crane, IMO. Plus he's way too old. If you want him to be Bob Crane, rent The Closer where he costarred with Mario Bello, who played Patricia Crane here. I thought Kinnear was an excellent choice who was much closer to Crane in style and essence, even if Kinnear doesn't have the acting credibility of Macy.

Macy is a rodent, and always plays a ratty guy. Kinnear is a good actor, good looking and can do a lot of things.

Dont you mean "The Cooler"?

Macy would have been an idiotic casting choice as Crane. Macy is too odd looking, quirky, awkward, homely and small. Crane was a schmoozing, confident, handsome, charming babe magnet.

Bizarre choice!
