Why I think this film is great (spoilers)

The year is 2008 and I have avoided this film till last night. It’s been in my DVD collection fully wrapped for a long time. When it comes down it, a film that is touted as 'beautiful' 'Oscar nominated' or 'uplifting' is always a bit of a turn off. Even if you know it’s good there’s still a part of you that wants guns, drugs, and thrills that a righteous film doesn’t supply. However it was there and we had run out of everything to watch, so out it came.

Now I knew nothing about it. It started and seemed low budget fare. So here we go. Oh she wants to be excepted by her grandfather. Oh she wants to be the next elder. Oh here’s a low budget, indie version of Rocky scene of her getting good at the stick stuff. Against all odd she’ll come good at the end blah blah blah.

It was ok... until, she makes the speech about her granddad. Wow that was some powerful acting. Moving.

And then the Whales. Its low budget! I didn’t know they had money for animatronics! Or were they real Whales? And then she rides it. I was rushing!

The whole thing is simple story telling at its best. Like a parable from the bible (although without the religion) great loved it. Whoop de whoop!
