This so deserves to be in the Top 250! I swear, the Top 250 List really doesn't hold much water. It's basically a popularity contest. This is a truly excellent film and deserves a spot.

One of the few films I will give a perfect 10 to.

Every single movie must apparently have the "WHY ISN'T THIS IN THE TOP 250" and the "THIS IS THE WORST MOVIE EVARRRRR" threads..

Indeed! Both of those threads are classics. Every "decent forum" has one or both of them.
Frankly I don't give a rat ass about such a meaningless ranking as the IMDB Top250. People shouldn't be worried in the least about their favorite film being on that list or not.
Actually is kinda an honor not to be on that list.

It IS a popularity contest and I'm afraid this movie isn't just good enough to please every person out there like most modern movies do. I have issues with top 250 myself but that aside I still go there to get a good movie or two to watch.
Just finished watching this movie after my friend recommended this. Must say I didn't quite enjoy it. Grandfather was a great character and his look when his wife gave him his whales tooth back was just superb. Our main character Paikea was very good also with her stubborn attitude and innocence.
Now what I didn't like was the whole movie. I couldn't buy the whale riding part in such a realistic and modern look the movie had. It was like they say "deus ex machina". They could have done so much more with some of the side characters but they just didn't. I won't be recommending this to anybody.
