Why did she bring back a lobster for puka's (her grandfathers) tea?
shareMaybe for several reasons:
1.) New Zealand is surrounded by the ocean, so they probably eat a lot of seafood there.
2.) It could have been meant as a peace offering to try to win Paka over.
3.) It makes her excursion more impressive since she got the reputa necklace and the lobster in one breath.
Another reason is that in NZ the words Dinner and Tea are interchangable. For example if you ask someone to come over for Tea your actually asking them to come for dinner. Pai did not bring the crayfish (like lobster but without the claws) for Paka to have with a cup of tea but for him to have for dinner.
