Is Porourongi's artwork supposed to be portrayed as boring??

I felt like the slide show depicting Porourangi's artwork was kinda a bust lol, even BEFORE he revealed the pics of his German girlfriend.

Everyone had a blank look on their face, the pics themselves were kinda faded and amateur, and the artwork didn't seem to be too interesting. Pai does jump in and say "that one's good!" at one of the pieces, but maybe even somewhat outta courtesy.

For those that read the book, is his artwork something that's discussed? It's obviously really important to him, but maybe he's just not that good at it lol.

i think its more to do with the fact that the locals had no idea how to appreciate it since they come from a small town. towns like that in nz, they're more traditional (though, slowly modernizing to the current times) so they don't see much of the stuff that the big cities (or countries in this case) have to offer
