Disappointing
Overall, I was not impressed with this movie. I had heard great things about it and, as a "curvy" woman myself, thought I would love it, but I did not enjoy it. I hated the mother and was skeptical of the overall story.

shareI liked it ok, but it was not as impressive as I had heard. I wouldn't buy it or anything.

I saw it on HBO a few months ago when it premered. Despite an impressive hispanic cast and an new ending, I wasnt really impressed by the script and I didn't find it that great as the critics boasted it to be. I do think America Ferriera has a future in movies though, and it was also nice to see Ingrid Oliu in her first movie role in 11 years.

Well, look at a lot of the other movies that recieved high ratings by critics. Magnolia was long-winded. The critics don't necessarily rate it by its appeal to audiences. They rate it using cinematography and casting.
shareI saw the movie first and then the paly... but I have to say the paly is better... The writer of the play and the movie-- this was a story from her life-- put on the play in a very small paly house if its even called that, and the whole play only has five people in it... the play is so great... it is similar but there are many differences, the whole story line of ana going to school was played down in the paly... just small differences...

I agree with you clmurphy, the mother was a real bitch. She critized Ana about her weight while the mother was no skinny woman herself. She also called Ana a tramp when she had sex with that boy. She was a real nasty woman. >:(
