I think America Ferrera is so hot
with her beautiful face and nice full body
shareI second this.
She is hot and it's nice to see a real girl on screen. I know a lot more girls that look like America than I know girls that look like Paris Hilton. I want big hips, big boobs, and a big ass. I want a real woman.
yeah, i think she's very sexy and attractive. i don't like girls that are stick-thin or grossly obese, but i've always kinda had a thing for chubby girls with big butts.

I do not think the skinny get slammed at all (all you have to do is look at the majority of films and find that the majority of women in film between the ages of 16-35 weight less than probably 9 stone (126lb). The world seems to be obsessed by thin people, (and saying that you are being slammed for being thin is not true) not considering myself thin nor fat at around 12 stone (168lb) I feel it is an insult to be told:
‘The majority of the male population do prefer IN SHAPE females’
This is definitely not the case in Britain. I do agree that we are all women and all have the same parts and are each different, variation which sets us apart. But I think the majority of a female audience sitting down to watch say ‘Real women have curves’ would connect with Ana-the average clothes size in Britain being a size 16 (I believe this is a 14US).
I think America is stunning and an inspiration to women in general, she seems to look happy within herself (which is the most important thing) but this doesn’t at all mean I do not think other actresses who are ‘thin’ are also attractive such as Cate Blanchett and Gwyneth Paltrow. I think it is unfortunate that there are not more actresses who are curvy on our screens.
well i don't have any idea about stones but i can say that i feel much chubbier than some of the popular girls in my school. however, excuse my french, but that "girls in shape" thing is total bull-crap. i love to play soccer and am fairly good at it, so that would make me in shape right? i dont eat junkfood nonstop, and when i work out i work out at a fair pace. i weigh about 130 lbs. and yet... i don't see any guys knocking on MY door. so boo the guy who ever said that guys like girls who are in shape. a lot of guys like girls with a skinny middle, boobs, and an ass. and for the few great guys out there who appreciate some curves, congrats. you're mi dream guy. for all the rest, good luck finding your version of paris hilton.
and yes, america is gorgeous. all of her.
How about instead of saying that "real" women have curves, suggesting that skinny women are flawed somehow, why don't we rephrase it in a less insulting manner: curves are sexy. There's nothing wrong with liking thin women, but so many people out there can't seem to differentiate between "voluptuous" and "fat". I kind of pity men who think women should essentially be built like a broomstick with two balloons taped to it.
It's funny, when I'm watching films featuring your typical Hollywood rail-thin woman, I'm often thinking "she's so generic looking". In my mind I know she's good looking, but I don't really "feel" it. However, when I see women who are more shapely and considered by society to be less attractive (but still pretty), I find myself feeling incredibly attracted to them.
Paris Hilton makes me want to projectile vomit. America Ferrera is an uberbabe. And I personally think your average atheletic woman who spends a lot of her time playing sports looks a whole lot better than your average model in women's magazines who spends a lot of her time vomiting up her rice cake and tap water lunch.

u 4got the magazines that require ther models 2 vomit ther food 2 be skinny and "beautiful" enough. you forgot tv where the good girl who always wins the boy over is stick-like. even jobs! you cant work in a place like... lets say vicorias secret unless you r skinny and have incredible fashion and look like one of the "gorgeous" models in the saks 5th avenue catalog.
im agreeing with u but adding 2 wut ur saying. real women are women who let themselves be natural AND healthy. if a girl is naturally skinny then let her be. but if she like throws up her food twice a day so she has the most gorgeous body in all of the land then shes just like a manequin. same with larger girls. they can't alwayz help being larger than stick-like. at the same time they shouldnt lay back and say "im fat, oh well, i think i'll go and wolf down some ho-hos now". that duznt work either!! ppl should simply try 2 be the best they can be. thats the end of it.
America Ferrara is (sic). I'm watching this movie in my spanish class right now and my friends and I were talking about how this movie is, in addition to a movie about mexican family culture, a piece of pro - obesity propaganda. Now i certainly am not attracted to women that resemble scarecrows, but there is nothing sexy about an overweight girl with fat roles hanging over her jeans as Ferrera's do in RWHC. Real woman have curves???!!! Since when is a real woman supposed to be overweight?!! A REAL woman can be fat or skinny but there is no denying that an ATTRACTIVE woman isnt an overweight bloat. Lose some pounds Ferrera, and then maybe youll be hot. Until then I'll stick with women that won't crush me when they get on top!
shareI think you (from above) r completly wrong. Don't ever judege someone by how skinny or fat or WHATEVER they look like. So what if she's not stick thin? So what if she's a little overweight? She's comfortable with herself, with how she looks. To me, that is what makes her more sexy than any self consious stick out there. I think she is an inspiration to us all and she is naturally gorgeous. It was about time someone made a movie that spoke out about this issue. No one really chooses what their body type is. All you have to do is accept it and move on, while still taking care of yourself.
shareI just wanna say that I met America a couple of weeks ago (she came to my class to talk about the movie after a screening). She definitely didn't even look overweight, she probably lost a few pounds. She's pretty.
shareHeh, I agree with the people who said all humans with vaginas are real women. I found the title of this movie very offensive! Hey, I can't help it if I happen to be naturally skinny, geez. My figure is more boyish...were they trying to make me self-conscience? Or was this movie only for women who have curves? Eh, either way...it wasn't a great movie. But America is a good actress and seems to be a nice, normal girl. Hooray for her!
shareIts all about the person. To call her a "BLOAT" in completely unfair. You don't even know her as a person. There are bitchy fat girls and bitchy skinny girls. Its all about the person. The character Ana was very charming and sweet. If I were a guy that would be what would turn me on more than the fact that she is a bit overweight. As long as she takes care of herself and is happy thats alll that matters.
shareOf course men have very different tastes when it comes to women, after all my friends and I have very different tastes in men. Also, although slender women do not get "slammed" nearly as much as Rubenesque ones, trying to convince a swim team that you do not have anorexia can be a bit of a pain. This obsession about weight and body image is ingrained in most of the women I know and the sad thing is that everyone is beautiful in some way.
shareYou are rare. You understand that there are different types of women. Just as you are tired of being told you're to skinny and being slammed for it. Imagine living in a culture that does not support that. If you are overweight you are slammed by the everyday people and by our culture as a whole. Both sides are tired of hearing what they should look like.
-Amanda
PS- I'm sorry you look like Giselle. lol.
"What? You don't like your job? There's a support group for that...It's called EVERYONE."
It's really nice to hear that. I think she's lovely and would love to see her become a role model for younger plus size girls. (I know I never really had one when I was younger.)
shareMy main thing is that women are beautiful, no matter the size. A lot of the younger generation girls don't get that message nowadays. Now it's "be as skinny as you can be and you'll be beautiful." My little cousin who's 10 years old is having weight issues already and that scares me. She is a tiny person and she thinks she's fat. I'm also a youth mentor and I always tell my girls that I mentor that they are beautiful. I want them to know that someone thinks they're beautiful no matter the pant size. And I think America Ferrera is an inspiration. I hope she gets more lead roles.
shareThat sort of crap involving prepubescent kids already being obsessed with their appearance creeps the living hell out of me. Generation Y is going to be so monumentally screwed up when it hits middle age.
shareResponding to ATLKEVIN24:
If you think this movie is a piece of pro-obesity propaganda, then you've missed the point entirely. It's not about being proud of being fat-in fact, if you really think about it, the whole issue with Ana's weight was more of a subplot. The title "Real Women Have Curves" was basically a slap in the face to the severely misguided Hollywood mentality that you have to be stick-thin to be beautiful. The whole movie is basically about being yourself and not giving a rat's ass what other people think of you.
And there is a difference between being big and being fat, and America Ferrera is not fat. You have the right to your opinions, but personally, I'd rather be with a healthier, more normal looking woman who takes care of herself, than a self-obsessed mutated anorexic Barbie Doll like Paris Hilton.

I'm your average teenage girl... not too tall not to short, not runway thin but not obese. I love this movie because it shows that no matter what you look like they're is no way you're going to be happy unless you accept yourself. I loved the fact that she was comfortable in her own skin.
America loved who she was and she excepted it and I think that is all the matters. I personally agree that she is extremely pretty inside and out.
I saw 'Real Women Have Curves,' and I loved it. When I saw America Ferrara I thought to myself what a pretty girl. She certainly presented a different side to beauty that you don't normally see in teenage movies. She's certainly made feel differently about myself and how I should appreciate myself a bit more and I'm a thirty-five year old woman.America Ferrara is a young actress to definitely look out for in the future.
shareWell, I had to watch this movie for a counseling class. I bought it and was watching it at my apartment when my roommate (a guy) walked in. He goes, "Damn that bitch is fat." Then he proceeded to sit and laugh when Ana's mother called her a fatty, gordita...etc.
Here's the problem. I loved the movie. I thought it was great and it made me feel really good about myself and about movies in general. My roommate's comments really hurt my feelings because I am shaped a lot like Ana and I always have been. Even through dieting, exercise, and a case of the binge and purge... I have always been bigger. I don't think he realized how insensitive and rude his comments were.
I think another reason why this movie hit so close to home was because Ana's mother reminds me a lot of my mother. Even before puberty hit and I grew hips and boobs, my mother would make comments about my weight... and I wasn't overweight then. I wanted to slap her mom- maybe because it brought back painful memories of my own.
And in reponse to the comment about generation Y being messed up- I completely agree. My minor is in counseling and I have heard so many stories about children (mainly girls) as young as 5 being in therapy because of eating disorders. Children model after their parents and when they hear mommy or daddy saying that they don't want to eat because they are going to get fat it affects them. And the parents wonder why.
Anyway- great movie! Now I must get back to writing my paper. :)
How would you know whether or not Paris Hilton is anorexic? Do you follow her around and take note of her every bite? Just because you prefer larger women doesn't give you the license to call thinner people by derogatory names any more than those who prefer thin women have the right to call heavier people names.
