What was the statue, or statues in the movie that her mother prayed to for her daughter? I know there was one in the kitchen, maybe there where others and I don't remember. Was it Saint Lorenzo, Saint of Cooking? Was there one for single women to find a man? Please help, Thanks.
It was San Antonio. In Mexico (I don't know if the rest of Latin America believes the same) people pray to San Antonio for many things, but mostly to find a wife or a husband. If they can't find it, they turn the statue upside down (either by hanging it, or leaning it against something), and sometimes they also take away the "baby" from San Antonio's hands... They believe that this way, he'll respond to their prayers quicker.
I thought Ana's mom took the baby away from San Antonio cause she somehow knew that Ana had lost her virginity with Jimmy and didn't want her to get pregnant.
I saw the movie for the first time last night so I might not be getting the timeline down, but I thought Carmen (Ana's mom) took the baby away before Ana lost her virginity. Carmen confronted Ana almost immediately after Ana had sex saying something like "Now you're not only fat but you're also a tramp..." or something along those lines.
Will: Got a hot date? Jack: No, but the guy who's dating me does.
In Spain catholics are very devoted to San Antonio and it is said to be a very effective saint if prayed in order to find lost things. If you lose your pet, your wedding ring, everything you have lost, you pray him and he will help you to find it!!!
