The producers of the XXX franchise made every effort to remove Vin Diesel from the series. Not only did they turn the franchise over to Ice Cube for the sequel, they filmed a short for the XXX DVD where Diesel's character, Xander Cage, gets his trademark scalp blown off.
Now, director Rob Cohen and Diesel have sat down with Revolution Studios' Joe Roth to discuss bringing Cage back for XXX3. "Joe Roth came to the dubbing stage [of The Mummy] just last week, sat down and said, 'I own all the rights to XXX. Vin wants to do another one. Would you be interested?' said Cohen. "I said, 'Yeah, if I can sit down with everybody and make sure that the rules are set."
It would be easy enough to explain that Cage just faked his death. "You mean when I blew his scalp off? Never has a director gotten so much revenge on an actor. I was so mad. I was so angry by the time we got back from the press tour that when Sony came to me and said, 'We're going to have a new one, we want you to shoot a scene that passes the torch.' I said, 'Hell with passing the torch. Let's kill him.' Now I'm a little embarrassed by that, but I just laughed, because it was just out of anger."
Everyone's all grown up now, so XXX3 should be tension-free. "Yes, he has had a baby girl. He's in a good relationship. I had dinner with him before he did Fast and Furious. He's a different man. He's been sobered by the ups and downs of a career, and I think he now understands what a good synergy we had on this set and that he took for granted. That would be a good thing, and I also appreciate what he brings to the table, which is quite a bit. It was just like we were young and foolish, or he was young and I was foolish."

In Anime it's been done as well like Dragonball Z when Goku is suppose to die on Namek, you see the planet blow up with him on it and no way to get off. Then in the next episode we find out he is alive. Finally when Goku recounts what happened during the Trunks Saga, he gives a total different chain of events that what we saw happened.

See, if it was meant to be in the movie, it woulda been there. Can't really say that it was made too late because, well, we can simply take a look at the Star Wars trilogy for that. Hell, they replaced Sebastian Shaw with Hayden Christensen in Episode 6, and Episode 6 was released in 1983. So there's no excuse for it being "made too late". Coulda included it with XXX 2. Did they? Noooope. So what we're left with is a short flick that's not in either movie and has been pretty acknowledged by the director to be made out of spite and easily ignored.

i'll always stick by the fact that if a producer/director and co put clips linked to a movie even under 'special features' then its canon... no point sticking garbage on a dvd with the same characters and but them in stupid situation that have nothing to do with the movie...

That's fine and dandy if you're going to stick to your guns. I mean, look at Britney Spears's music. It's garbage, but try telling that to the millions that buy her CD's. There's a huge point in sticking garbage on a DVD. It's called SPECIAL FEATURES. It's simply incentive for you to buy it. Let's take a look at the DVD, shall we?
Original DVD was released in 2002 or 2003. The re-released DVD is the one with the short flick that you've been boohoo'ing about. You know why they put that on there? It was a half-assed way to bridge the two movies together otherwise XXX 2 wouldnt've made a lick of sense. Cohen outright said he was being vindictive and angry when he made the short flick. Hell, when you watch it, it's even got Alabama Cobb from XXX 2 in it. Sure, it makes sense. Why? Deckert's going after Gibbons. Gibbons is linked to the XXX Project. The lead character in that project? Xander Cage. Deckert sees that Cage could be a huge problem, sends Cobb to kill him. What didn't make sense though, was the fact that Alabama was making comments about Xander "not having anything between the ears", like he knew Cage. Sure, this can be construed as a sick joke, but it still came across like Cobb knew Xander prior as he'd said "I always knew he had nothing between the ears". Makes no sense.

After seeing that clip the first thing I have to say is that they put a lot of effort to make it seem natural that Xander did not show his face at all. Secondly I have seen him go through more complicated and deadly stunts only to come out unscathed and to just die like that over a chick.....it just makes the whole thing seem rediculous and that is why it never made the cut.

Maybe it's just me, but who cares about some joke of a short film that was shoved in the special features portion of a crap DVD.
No one. No one at all.
Do you really think that if Diesel wants to come back the studio is going to say....."well Vin, We would really like to have you back....but ...uh... We just can't seem how to get around this silly little short film no one gives two shakes about." ......Vin Diesel: "Well....Damn, never mind I guess."
Lets get Vin back....He's Cool the First movie was cool, the next one can be cool as well.
