hijacking a government official's car and driving it off a cliff? That's like the worst thing he could have done. He reinforced every stereotype he was trying to disprove in about 10 minutes.
No one is saying that music makes us violent. The guy is just saying that it was dumb to take a violent guy making violent things to try and prove the point that the music he listens doesn't make violent people. About videogames, I'm guessing you have some studies and research to back up your argument? I think there's nothing to suggest that videogames truly make society violent. I know of certain cases, but it's not a generality.
oops. My mistake. I got it mixed up. Video games "diminish the intelligence of our youth" (According to Dick).
Of course, I, like most people, consider that music and video games, and general media is a byproduct of society, not the other way around. Gangsta came before gangsta rap. Punk attitudes came before Punk music and people were stealing cars and killing whores long before Grand Theft Auto hit the shelves.
Just like porn- people were doing it long before it ever made it to film.
But does the incorporation of these vices encourage it beyond its social scope? Would violence be static without the violent music or, because it becomes mainstreamed, does it catch and spread like a virus?
I remember reading about teenagers making little "fight clubs" in their mommies' basements after the movie "Fight Club" came out. We don't hear about that anymore, but it demonstrates how young people can be influenced by the media they experience. just look at all the Madonna wannabe's that sprung up in the 80's. or today, look at all these guys maxing themselves out for extreme fighting or whatever the hell it's called.
There's no denying that the young are influenced by what they watch and hear. It's always been that way since the dawn of man. The issue is whether the media influence is adequately tempered by (positive) parental and societal influence/guidance.
Havent seen this movie in awhile, but yeah I think you might be right haha. He stole that guys car who was some politician against video games, drove it around in a high speed chase, and then launched it off a cliff to destroy it.
