Why does Chris assume Jessie is still alive?

They know from experience that the creatures kill everyone immediately yet he still hitches a ride back to their home to try and save her. Surely he'd just think she was dead and try and save himself?

That's one of those questions I never thought of during the movie, but at the time I did wonder why the cannibals didn't just hack her there and then when they caught her by the roadside. I think it's because of the unexpected resistence and challenge she and Chris gave them, as well as being responsible for the death of one of their own. They wanted to give her a more personal send-off!

Wasn't she tied to the bed? I presume they were going to use her as their baby mama!

But also Chris might have been calling back to kick their asses and stop them from doing it again.

What happens in the meadow at dusk? NOTHING!, EVERYTHING!

Two ideas. One, they wanted to rape her and breed. Two, she was bait to get Chris.

I think they didn't hack anyone up without their leader, which is presumably the one that killed the Ranger. When he brought the Ranger in, he was the one hacking him up. If they wanted someone to breed with then they could have saved and used Francine. Just my thought.

I think the logical explanation is that since they did not kill Jessie on the spot, Chris believed that there was still a chance of saving her.

I don't think those inbreds wanted to use her for breeding. If that was the motive, they could have done that for the other two girls, not to mention the women they captured in the past. But of course in that case that won't be a community of inbreds any more.

I concur.

Very good :)

There's a deleted scene. Where it appears Chris & Jessie hook up under the waterfall.

I guess he had feelings for her so that's why he had to know for sure if she was alive or dead.

reply

I think they didn't kill Jess because they wanted trap Chris. They probably knew that he would try and go to them and save her. By them not killing her right then and there like the others maybe Chris was aware that that's what they were trying to do.

reply

Maybe he didn't. He DID set the place on fire and drove a car through the front. I think he was more into killing them then saving her. That was just a bonus.

And THAT is where babies come from.

Yeah that bit was the only part I thought didn't make sense. If she wasn't the star of the movie she would have been killed on the spot like everybody else. I think Chris would have just got himself out of there knowing she was dead anyway.
