Ok it's super unlikey for girls to be hemophilliacs

so... yeah

Sorry to burst your bubble but it is possible.

Yea one of my relatives who was a girl died of hemophelia so it kinda pisses me off when someone says it isn't possible. Sorry if I sounded harsh in my previous post.

A female is also likely to die from this disorder or at the least need special treatment, especially once they hit puberty, otherwise every period could be fatal.

Ahem. Menstruation does not involve "bleeding" as you know it. What's expelled is not blood, but the endometrium (the lining of the uterus), and the process doesn't require FVIII to stop it, since no blood vessels are ruptured.

This is not to say that menorrhagia, or heavy periods, are not a problem in female haemophiliacs, but it is controllable and no more fatal than it would be if occurring in any other woman.

There's also blood as well. That why we have clots that sometimes come out during our periods. So it does involve some bleeding.

Although it is sex linked, all genetic disorders can be acquired spontaneously due to a mutation in a gamete of the parent. This is another way females can get it. Furthermore, there are women haemophiliacs that do not die at birth and live full lives. And it is also possible for a woman who is a carrier of haemophilia to have some symptoms of a haemophiliac.

It really upset me when I read this was a blooper to fear.com in a book. The book stated that it was physically impossible for women to be haemophilic and that is just not true… it’s just very unlikely but it does happen. It’s not like haemophilia is a common disorder anyways.

reply

Queen Victoria was a haemophilliac. Just a useless little piece of trivia

Interesting.

Lovely, lovely signature. ... That's really the only reason I replied. Well, not the only reason, what you said really is interesting. ... I'll shut up now.

Do you want to know how I got these scars?

reply

I think I just read that same book. It's one of those "Bathroom Reader" books (the one I read, anyway). When I read that the book said that women can't be hemophiliacs, I thought it was ridiculous too.

Yep, I love biology.

Don't you make that face at me.

reply

Personally, I'm just quite impressed that an IMDB board is covered with bio information.

That intellectual arguments actually occur.

I'm also quite surprised that any of these people watched this horrible, horrible movie...

Myself included.

Ghosts come out of my computer all the time, what the hell are YOU talking about?

Credibility...bah

reply

lol
but my science teacher says it is impossible, just highly unlikely

reply

LMFAO! That made my day. =)

reply

Yeah. It's almost impossible and in the extremely rare case they would die at birth. And if they didn't die at birth and nothing killed them before hand, their first period would likely kill them. But again,it's pretty much impossible in the first place.

It's comical to me that anyone even bothered arguing whether it's possible or not for girls to have this particular disorder on a board about a movie where a ghost was killing people for visiting a website.
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Only in IMDb.

reply

Thank you!

I hate when people go on and on about how something in a film isn't realistic.. when the film involves GHOSTS KILLING PEOPLE FFS!

WOOF WOOF!

reply

Rare, but still possible. It's sort of like color-blindness or autism: more common among men, but not exclusive to them.

reply

No, it's even more rare than color-blindness or autism in girls - this has to do with chromosomes, hemophilia is almost impossible to happen in females.

reply

I'm not sure what the deleted posts said, but if people could read, they would see that you said it's super unlikely for a girl to be a hemophiliac. and it's true. it is more rare for a girl to be one. you never said it was impossible, you just said super unlikely.

reply

if a hemophiliac female n hemophiliac male marries then only their daughter will also hemophiliac that too only 50% chance if the father is heterozygous
