BIG Timeline Mistake

Ok, this was hard to explain in person, so this will probably be the same. Austin finishes has his spy school graduation in 1958, when he looks to be not much older than 20yrs old, if that. In the first movie Dr. Evil flees to space in the Big Boy in 1967 (or 1969, i can't remember)which would make him somewhere between 30 and 40 years old. Austin is frozen for thirty years, until 1997 (when the first movie came out), and 5 yrs later goldmember is released in 2002. This would mean austin can't be more than 50 in 2002, right? If austin was never frozen, he would be no less than 60 years old. That being said, austins dad was never frozen (he mocks austin for being frozen) and he is abducted in 2002 by goldmember from his yacht. in 2002, austins dad appears to be at the very oldest 70 yrs old. this would mean that in 2002 austin and his dad would be around the same age had austin not been frozen. Hopefully that came out clear because it has been bugging me!!

It's a comedy. It wasn't meant to be accurate or realistic in anyway. It's just plain (non-complicated) fun

"So, Basil, if I travel back to 1969 and I was frozen in 1967, presumeably, I could go back and look at my frozen self. But, if I'm still frozen in 1967, how could I have been unthawed in the '90s and traveled back to the '60s?
Oh, no, I've gone cross-eyed."

- I suggest you don't worry about those things and just enjoy yourself. That goes for you all, too.

Yeah, I agree. Nice job noticing the mistake though, but I wouldn't take it too seriously unless it was a serious film. Hell, Austin Powers isn't even a serious comedy, it being a parody and all!

"Take your shot, Fun Boy! You got me dead bang!"

I taught the same but like the others say its not meant to be serious but yea I do get your point

I know what you mean then after driving myself crazy trying to figure out the ages I said screw it, I love the movie thats all that counts.

In my estimation, Austin was born in 1940, meaning he'd be 62 when the events of the film pan out. Austin's dad is clearly in his 70's, Caine certainly is, so if he had Austin when he was a teenager then I suppose it is just about possible.

Fact of the matter is, Austin's knocking on and hasn't produced any heirs of his own...:-)

reply

The next movie they can give him his own clone, or have him travel back in time to knock someone up and show up later as his son.

Hm, let's see. Assuming Austin is say, 21 when he graduates, meaning he was born around 1937. His dad would have been born around 1920 then for it to make sense, making him around 82 in 2002. I don't see the flaw in that really. Who's to say he's not in his 80s in the film?

His father was living in the 1970s. Goldmember grabbed him and brought him to the future 30 years later.

reply

Yeah, isn't that it? All this talk about 2002, but didn't Austin travel back to 1975 and find his father there?

The series is supposed to deliberately overlook inconsistencies.

There. Done.

Oh no, I've gone cross-eyed.
