If it's "weird to have a White actor be the hero of the story", is it weird if White people don't watch it?
Honestly, these people just can't help themselves anymore, can they? It's not like White people make up the majority of their fanbase or anything.
Look, I always thought Liu Kang was the main character, probably because of the 90's movies but hey, at least I wasn't racist about it. To me, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade were secondary to Liu Kang.
Not only that, but Scorpion and Sub-Zero are usually the big draws of the franchise anyway, they're both the face of Mortal Kombat. Neither they nor Liu Kang are White.
I think the reboot games (MK9-MK11) are cinematic enough to act as a solid blue-print for any modern Mortal Kombat movies, all while still being diverse, but maybe that's just me.
If the producers just wanted an original character to act as the stand-in for the audience, fine. Unnecessary, but fine. However, they clearly went out of their way to make their agenda known, and clearly they haven't learned their lesson yet on woke=broke.
As far as recent adaptations go, might as well stick with the animated Mortal Kombat: Scorpion's Revenge movie, that one was actually pretty decent.
