If it's "weird to have a White actor be the hero of the story", is it weird if White people don't watch it?

Honestly, these people just can't help themselves anymore, can they? It's not like White people make up the majority of their fanbase or anything.

Look, I always thought Liu Kang was the main character, probably because of the 90's movies but hey, at least I wasn't racist about it. To me, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade were secondary to Liu Kang.
Not only that, but Scorpion and Sub-Zero are usually the big draws of the franchise anyway, they're both the face of Mortal Kombat. Neither they nor Liu Kang are White.
I think the reboot games (MK9-MK11) are cinematic enough to act as a solid blue-print for any modern Mortal Kombat movies, all while still being diverse, but maybe that's just me.

If the producers just wanted an original character to act as the stand-in for the audience, fine. Unnecessary, but fine. However, they clearly went out of their way to make their agenda known, and clearly they haven't learned their lesson yet on woke=broke.
As far as recent adaptations go, might as well stick with the animated Mortal Kombat: Scorpion's Revenge movie, that one was actually pretty decent.

Would you look at that? More of that broken record reactionary propaganda/crying. (Duh.) Welp, that sounds about white altright.

Desperately pushing that tired “go woke go broke” reich wing agenda these propagandists are, aye? Yawn! Lol, as if conservative-disapproved Hollywood is desperate (and in need) to listen to the loud but vocal minority that (in addition to living in alternative facts world) whines excessively about how non-pc regressive things are these days in an industry that they wish would still pander heavily to real fascistic propagandists. What the reactionary chud crowd in every damn movie board - and anywhere online - calls woke agenda>>> the actual agenda of keeping things the way they were back in yer safe and beloved pro-exclusion reich wing privileged days.

Stay mad

Wow, it looks like you managed to use all of the Blue labels and talk-points in one paragraph, well almost, if only the first sentence wasn't separated from the rest. Still, congrats man, have a soy cookie.

For every one "go woke go broke" example you give me, I can throw back two Captain Marvels proving it doesn't exist.

The only thing broke about going woke is the record the anti-wokers spew.

reply

Yeah.... Didn't Disney pay money out of it's own pocket to make it appear Captain Marvel did well? 😄 At $1 billion, that's gotta be the most expensive film ever made.
Gotta admire the Mouse willing to spend that much on one movie just to keep up appearances, too bad he didn't consider that people would actually take screenshots of empty theaters, or cinema staff going on record saying that almost nobody showed up despite tickets supposedly selling out.

But I suppose I'm willing to hear what movies you think broke the "get woke, go broke" mold, you got me moderately curious. Here, I'll start off the woke/broke list with some of the more notable entries:

Ghostbusters (2016)
Terminator: Dark Fate
Charlie's Angels (2019)
Men in Black: International
Birds of Prey
X-Men: Dark Phoenix
Solo: A Star Wars Story

And that's just a few examples for movies. There's also video games and TV shows that suffered the consequences too.

Yes, I will stay mad if someone continually slaps me in the face.

Are you pretending that you would not???

Yeah, it is getting ridiculous at this point.

I’ve seen the stories about what the director said and I’m going to just look at it as a poor choice of words. He said if there’s a sequel he plans on using Johnny Cage so I’ll take his word for it. I’m excited to have a movie to look forward to in theaters.

reply

If you haven’t seen it already, go and watch Godzilla vs Kong. It’s a fun summer blockbuster movie (released in spring) that’s worth the cinema experience.

As for Johnny Cage, it doesn’t make sense to hold him off for another movie, since he’s one of the original characters. I mean, they kept Sonya Blade (granted she’s a woman so maybe she gets a pass), and not only that, they kept her White AND hot.
It’s a shame because I saw that James Wan is one of the producers, and I was thinking recently that he would’ve been a good choice helm a modern MK movie. I think it was one of his co-producers, Todd Garner, that felt he had to run his mouth.

Maybe it was a poor choice of words, but then again, maybe Garner knew exactly what he was saying.

reply

Yeah I might go see Godzilla vs. Kong, go see Nobody if you haven't seen that already. Plenty of action, no political correctness and its actually an entertaining movie.
