They got their work cut out for them
When the original Mortal Kombat movie was made a lot of the characters weren't as developed as they are today. Even widely popular characters like Sub-Zero and Scorpion weren't as developed as they are now, for instance we knew that there were two Sub-Zero's that were brothers but that's just about it, now we know both there alternate names, the older, more ruthless brother being Bi-Han and the younger, more compassionate bother being Kuai Liang... I know that Bi-Han got his own game in Mortal Kombat Mythology: Sub-Zero, and as crappy as it was it did give Bi-Han some development it pales in comparison to what we know about him now, like how he was framed by Quan Chi for the genocide of Scorpion's clan the Shirai Ryu... which resulted in Scorpion killing Bi-Han in a fit of rage turning him into a completely different character in Noob Saibot who he still is to this day. Then we have the younger Sub-Zero "aka" Kuai Liang who has also gone through a lot of development since his debute in the games...from being cyborized to being a Revenant, to finally becoming the Grandmaster of the Lin Keui which he still is to this day.
I remember the first my cousin introduced me to first Mortal Kombat game I ever played which was MK 4 on Nintendo 64 and ever since than I've been hooked to what in my opinion is one of the greatest entertainment franchises in existence. It's just amazing how far Mortal Kombat has come since the very first game and l am excited to see how they incorporate some of these new developments into the upcoming movie.
