Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I had rented this the other night, highly anticipating the conversations shared among the diners. It would be nice to see some of these people "dressing down" and talking among their peers in a non-celebrity angle, just being themselves. As opposed to being on a talk-show or something of that nature where they are "on."
Boy was I wrong. The more I heard John Favreau talk the more I disliked him. I couldn't finish watching all the episodes. Some of these people are pretty lame. Vince Vaughn is just a plain A-hole. I've always liked Gary Shandling though. The one actress(Tripplehorn?) "broke down in tears" when she landed on the big island to see all the lava are "non-beauty" of Hawaii. Please. Give me a break. What a waste of money to rent that. 'Hey, let's get together and talk about work all the time.' 'And listen to John Favreau talk about himself.'
The night wasn't a total waste. I countered that rental with solid comedy, in 'Curb Your Enthusiasm - Second Season.'

You seemed surprised by the content, therefore I'm assuming that you hadn't seen the show. It seems odd to me that you would have rented a DVD of an entire season of a show when you hadn't seen a single episode on tv. I guess it's ok to take risks like that, but when you do it's your own fault if you're disappointed. Some of the guests and episodes can be rather boring, but the majority of them seem very entertaining to you. A lot of the guests do have egos, but that is to be expected among actors, directors, producers, etc. If you're not interested in the movie business, this probably isn't for you. However, if you are, I don't see why you wouldn't enjoy it. By the way, I'm a huge "Curb your enthusiasm" fan as well. It is one of the few shows I enjoy more than dinner for five.

I love this show. Maybe it was boring for you cause you have ADD and a short attention spand... I don't know.

Yes. I agree, some of the people are, well, tools... but A LOT aren't and it's interesting to just listen to them talk.

Yeah I think it's funny that David Cross hates "Inside the Actor's Studio" so much for being smug, yet appeared on this show which is 50 times more arrogant. I enjoy this show but it's so clear that most of the people on it think the world revolves around Hollywood.

Would you prefer that these actors and directors talk about sports or finance instead? Maybe animal husbandry? Macrame?

I never found 'Dinner for Five' boring or a snorer. I did gain some insight on the life of 'working' actors. Acting is such a 'here today, gone tomorrow' occupation. And considering each episode is unscripted you get a genuine glimpse into the personalities of established actors. How are they without a script and just being themselves. I found each segment compelling and Favreau did his best to keep things flowing. He was the host. This series would not be someone who prefers a faster pace. 'Dinner for Five' is slow by design.

yeah i'd be disappointed if I paid for it too, all the episodes are on youtube in almost their entirety

And I think you have no idea what you're talking about. Watch more episodes, most episodes I watch are valuable, some have too much 'acting' talk and not enough people being funny or entertaining stories from the biz

Look up the episode with Vince Vaughn, Brian Cox, Rory Cochrane, and Cole Hauser, Vaughn is honestly legendary, seeing one scene of that episode was enough to sell me on watching almost all of the other episodes

I do a little research before I commit to a movie or tv show. It helps a lot. I would never order a season of anything without seeing one episode on tv. you tube, or netflix

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else
