In the episode where only three guests showed up Hannah really struggled to keep the conversation directed towards film. By the end you could see Manson and Dick's stories were weighing on her a bit.

I was dissappointed that she didn't do another episode. I'm a big fan of her and would really like to see what she had to say, but she just got overshadowed by Manson and Dick. Does anyone know why those three were put together? She seems like an odd choice for that particular group. Seems like Tom Hanks/Uma Thurman/Clea DuVall/ would have made a better group.
shareYeah I just watched that episode. I never liked Andy Dick but Marilyn Manson has always been interesting when he's not singing and I still felt they were overpowering the conversation. At times Daryl would try to interject a point, or not let Manson hijack the dialogue and he'd keep repeating himself until she shut up.
shareJust watched all of S1, and left this episode to last - definitely the low point of S1. Over the ending credits, Darryl Hannah - understandably - bemoans the lack of focus on independent film during the dinner conversation. It's inevitable that with this format the conversation may at times go in other directions - and with some guests this was interesting - but Andy Dick & Marilyn Manson dominated long periods with their tawdry anecdotes. Favreau was trying to remain the congenial host while probably inwardly wincing, and Daryl was clearly offended.
Risque humour never hurt anyone, but once they got onto their masturbation/porno habits...with a respected actress that they barely knew involved in the conversation...seems quite mysogynistic to me.

She seemed very uncomfortable and rightfully so. Dick and Manson went on and on about sex topics like a couple of drunk college frat boys. The Howard Stern show this is not but they didn't seem to get that. I like Daryl and would like to hear some stories from her but she was hanging her head in embarrasment most of the time.
God, wasn't it awful? Poor girl.
People are so surprised that Marilyn Manson can form a coherent sentence they immediately proclaim him insightful. I don't buy it. So he's read a couple books, so what? Victorians are more shocking. He bores me.

Yes, Marilyn name-dropping Luis Buñuel was a real tipoff. I suspect anyone who insists on mentioning their favorite film isn't really being honest because the more films I watch, the harder it is to pick a single favorite. Can you?
At least the conversation was still on movies at this point. It was a very cringe-worthy episode, and not just for Daryl Hannah. I like the fact that these are open, unmoderated discussions, but I think Jon Favreau could have done a bit to steer the conversation back to film. It was pretty much just Marilyn Manson and Andy Dick doing schtick, and it was more of a dual monologue than a conversation.
Definitely the worst episode ever. Marilyn Manson was just obnoxious.
I wonder who the fourth guest was supposed to be? Maybe someone more like Daryl and it wouldn't have been so lopsided.
shareI replayed this episode again, and it is a tough one. Of all the episodes where a guest can't attend, it has to be the one with both Andy Dick & Marilyn Manson. Poor Daryl Hannah was out on an island by herself there.
