Did Enter the Void hurt Noe's career?

Enter the Void is one of my faves but let's face it, the film was a monumental box office bomb. Well, it was over here in the states (Not like that's a surprise). I don't know how it did in Europe but I highly doubt it made back its €13,000,000 budget.

Naturally, it gets harder for a director to get funding for future projects when the ball is dropped like that. For all I know, he could be on a hiatus but last I heard, he was in talks for directing the adaption of the Golden Suicides along with having plans on doing his own small little sex-based film set in France. Nothing too costly I'd imagine (And of course it's sex based. Damn it, Noe).

But where did all of that noise go? Everything has been silent for a while...

You mean Norman Bates Jr. is the baby daddy?

reply

I don't know but somehow frequent box office bombs doesn't seem to keep Uwe Boll from finding funds and stars for his projects.

reply

That's not a good comparison, because throughout his career Uwe Boll has been exploiting the German tax laws to get funding.
I don't mean to impose, but I am the Ocean.

reply

Really? I didn't know that. Just another reason to dislike Boll. Honestly the only movie of this director's that I've seen so far is Irreversible and I can't say that it was the most comfortable movie to start with.

reply

No, I don't think so. He has worked as a consultant on several films in Hollywood post-"Enter the Void". "Drive" by Refn was one of those films.

reply

I didn't know Noe was involved with Drive. Explains the similarity between the face smashing scenes.

His new film "Love" is out now. I am yet to see it, and I'm not sure I feel like I want to watch it. Gaspar Noé is probably one of my favourite directors, and Enter the Void is my absolute favourite film. Love has been labelled as a porn film with Gaspar Noé's cinematic, melodramatic, and controversial twists on it. I don't know if it will have an impact any where near that of Irreversible, Enter the Void or even his earlier films, Carne and I Stand Alone. I'll likely watch it at some point. While Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac films were a little disappointing, they show that you can still carry a reasonably interesting plot in a heavily sex-based film. I hope there is at least something worth of praise in this new film.
