Why Do Men Like It Better?

This isn't just an unfounded theory of mine - I was looking at the demographic breakdowns on the voting, and for every single age group men liked it better than women. I don't know why this is, but I hope it's not because some of these men were actually getting a kick out of the rape.

no, i think it is quite the opposite. men know better how despicable most man are therefore can relate better to what the film has to offer.

reply

Yeah, I don't know what this other guy is talking about.

reply

"How despicable most men are"? Really?
Maybe you should blame the community and the men you grew up with.

There was nothing even remotely erotic about the scene...and I'm a guy

reply

Thank god I wasn't the only one who got turned on by the rape scene...

The scene was a little over-the-top. But still disturbing.

being the number one sex fantasy for most women, to be raped by a stranger

maybe not raped, but made love to? I think mostly women (or men) don't dream about feeling pain.

reply

Having said that, the majority of women get turned on by rape fantasies (being the number one sex fantasy for most women, to be raped by a stranger).

LOL stop saying crap about women fantasies. this is not even true.

if this was the case the movie wouldn't had a better rating between women?

Men are likely to enjoy this film more because the protagonist is male. It's a power fantasy -- avenge a woman that you love in a powerless position from a violent act. The film also reasserts their masculinity (in the cases of straight men, of course) because the villain is gay, because Alex was raped by a gay man. That was a huge blow to the protagonist's masculinity, which is why he went through all of this in the first place. Plus, vigilante justice and all. That's not something that appeals solely to men, but yeah.

I hated the plot (the intent was not lost on me -- I just hated the way it was executed), but I still loved the film's cinematography and special effects. Really unsettling.

At first I couldn't figure out if this was was trolling or not, but lets try to break it down.

The rape is horrific because its (rape itself in any form) horrific. I also reckon that plenty of gay men (the ones I know at least) would be insulted and horrified by the suggestion that gay men (as opposed to straight or bi men) would rape a women at all. Admittedly this is a difficult point, but it really is brain-dead third wave non-thinking internet feminism at best or very lazy trolling at worst to argue that anyone would rape anyone they weren’t sexually attracted to in the first place. Come to think of it, this is just insulting to intelligent life full-stop.

Rape is horrific. It is also sexually motivated by its very nature. Your comment is offensive to anyone, gay or straight with a functioning intellect. I'm sorry to reduce this to the most reductive of online dualities, but either you a very lazy troll, or incredibly stupid. I personally reckon the latter.

reply

I mean, I agree that rape in any form is horrific as any decent person would, but the film makes its position very clear. Rape is about power, it is not about sexual attraction. You're insinuating that my argument is homophobic, to which I reply...isn't the notion of having a gay villain the more homophobic thing? LGBTQ people don't have a lot of positive, fleshed out representation in media.

Rape is violence. Yes, it involves sex, but it is not about sex. Sex/intimacy is not the goal.

I love a good rape/revenge film as much as anyone else, but Alex (and her trauma) was only a plot device in a film about Marcus's attempt to avenge her and get his power back after that blow to his ego. Notice how we never get her POV on any of this -- it is all about Marcus. He carries the film.

I really don't care if you agree with me or not.

my answer is: men aren't so affected by rape, see how many men here are turn on by the rape scene.
also there is a lot of lack of empathy from men to women that were victims of rape.

the other one is that the woman is a plot device to trigger the story. she is rapwed and brutalized to give a reason to a man seek vengeance over her. it's one sexist trope.for sure women won't like this, i didn't liked.

it is basically these two reasons
