Why did Debbie take things so literally?
I mean he walked her to the car once, and she built up this whole relationship in her head!?

I know me to, it was hard to watch!
sharehey cmon when you meet someone that youre so taken to, you cant help but feel if its gonna go somewhere. and unfortanetly rick ended up a real jerk as he stood uma's character up after she made dinner fpr both of them. you cant help but straight away build up this hope that this might be it. and im a guy so yes im a romantic :)
anyway that guy who played him, he was really good.
I think you all missed the immense feeling of desperation that this whole movie was about...

Hard work never hurt nobody but I'd rather be lucky.
I always wondered why a chick who is almost 30 would be like this. Cuz I am 28 and yea- I built stuff like this up in my head when I was like 19, but now- I wouldn't give this stuff a second thought.
And then I met this chick Sara, who is 33. And she is wayyyyyy more desperate and clingy and needy than Uma in this movie. And she builds this stuff up in her head, when in reality, she is just a booty call, just like the chick in this movie. So I'm starting to think it's some psychological imbalance, or very little (if any) self esteem.

Yeah, I think it is a mental disorder. You hear about it all the time where people build a relationship in their heads with others who may not even know thay exist ex:the guy who stalked Jodie Foster back in the day or the woman who stalked David Letterman more recently. I remember watching a great movie on LMN starring Jenna Elfman with this plotline.
shareIndeed people need to learn the difference between booty calls and actual relationships.
Sleeping with somone you barely know or on the first date is a booty call. It's not a relationship. Women need to be smarter about their decisions regarding men and the guys need to step up to the plate more.
Both genders are failing miserably at relationsips and it's creating a generation of lost individuals that just don't know what to do.
To me they were showing us how hopelessly desperate Uma's character was. Towards the end of the film them bartender tells her maybe she doesn't see things too clearly.
shareYeah, zoozoo-- the title says it all, really.
The film was about an imperfect woman who didn't see things clearly and handled things badly-- like a lot of people. The film focuses on a moment in time when she has to face what her distance from reality is doing to her, the toll it is taking on her happiness and ability to take care of herself.
I guess you can just judge her and write her off as a f--up, or you can have a little compassion and try to understand what might motivate someone to behave the way she does. My heart broke for her-- it is not wrong for her to want the things she wants, it is just that she tells herself she has found them when she hasn't.
