The band of seven

I'm not good with their names but in the cartoon, the one who has the cool sword that appears to have a crush on Inuyasha is that person a man or a woman? I always thought it was a woman but in the episode they showed Friday morning on adult swim Inuyasha referred to the person as a he.

The character you're asking about is Jakotsu, and he is male.

Really? I always thought he was a woman. He sounds like he has a woman's voice. And with the crush he appears to have on Inuyasha I thought for sure he was a woman. Thank you for clearing this up for me.

reply

First time I saw the episode I thought the same thing. He looks like a girl, sounds like one, and you don't really think they would have a gay character in the show, oh well.

reply

Jakotsu is a girl!? I could swear by the grass being green that was a women. I mean he/she asked if InuYasha was handsome. When Wikipedia said he was a open homosexual I didn't believe. Looks like Kagura from afar.

The openly homosexual and very loyal member of the Band of Seven. He also flies into a rage when Sango interferes in his first conflict with InuYasha, and at one moment Jakotsu openly says he finds people like Miroku and Sesshomaru good-looking too.

Rumiko Takahashi sure did fool the *beep* out of me.

Jakotsu is in fact totally male. It's fairly obvious in the parts of the anime where his kimono was shredded, before he got a new one: that is not a woman's chest.

of course they had to make it even more confusing by having a woman do the voice.

reply

That's what they did with Fushigi Yuugi ^.^ Nuriko. Talks like a woman, looks like a woman, dresses like a woman, infatuates like a woman.

Underneath it all...pure raw manpower.

1) that's jakotsu. he's a flamboyantly homosexual male.
2) otaku have a tendency to bite people's heads off when they refer to anime as cartoons. just warning you.

That's when I was positive it was a guy.

There was another flamboyant guy who comes along a few episodes later that I think would be classified as the stereotypical gay.

reply

There are two things that are a constant in almost every anime (especially the long running ones)

the first one is the dirty old man, though Miroku fills that role in Inuyasha.

And the second, is the gay man (who often looks like a woman), or, to make up for it, a horde of straight men who all look like women

reply

Actually there is a dirty old man other than Miroku, the bearded guy with long arms... forgot his name.
