Under-appreciated?

Does anyone else think Kaede is under-appreciated on the show? It seems to me that her suffering and loyalty deserve more notice.

Maybe they could do a show about her life between burying her sister and meeting Kagome. It could be quite interesting...

Well not really. Kaede is just the younger sister, the only thing she experienced was watching Kikyo die and that was 50 years ago. Other than that she serves no purpose to the story line,my opinion, she has no problems with Naraku expect for killing her sister and she's is a old lady so she can't fight him off and spiritual powers aren't that strong. I do like Kaede tho.

I agree that she doesn't figure into this (the Naraku) storyline - I was talking about HER story. After all, she had to try to take Kikyo's place in the village and hold the village together without being the talented Priestess that Kikyo was. And she did it for 50 years, so that everything would be ready when Kagome arrived to finish off the saga. The fact that she didn't know Kagome was coming makes her story all the more interesting to me. It appears that she never felt sorry for herself, but just pitched in and did it. Those kind of folk (often called the "salt of the earth") are what really make the world go around and keep life going so that the heroes and villains can entertain the rest of us.

Sorry I didn't make myself more clear.

Once Kikyo died, the Shikon no tama was burnt with the body, so Kaede was never in charge of it.
She just kept living as a normal priestess, she was not preparing Kagome's arrival. Her life during 50 years must have been very common, between helping people of the village and killing monsters.

Sorry, I was unclear - I didn't mean she knew Kagome was coming back (in fact I said she didn't know). It's pretty obvious that demon infestation was rampant during that time (given the way people react to all the demons the Scooby gang keep running into), so to call a daily battle of good against evil "common" doesn't make it less interesting. Personally, I think a story about how "common" folk deal with massive evil at least as interesting as how super-powered people do it. But that's just me...

[Yes, I called the Inuyasha group the Scooby gang, what of it?]
