Clarification?

Was just re-watching "Kagome's Instinctive Choice" (where Kagome has to cure the miasma killing Kikyo), and the shinidamachuu repeatedly tell Kagome that they won't be able to keep Kikyo's soul in her body if she doesn't hurry.

Two questions: (1) If Kikyo's artificial body contains her soul, then why does she need to keep gathering other souls to power it, and (2) if Kikyo still has her own soul, then what part of Kikyo is in Kagome (who is supposed to be Kikyo, reincarnated)?

Basically, souls in the Inuyashaverse are complicated things.

Most relevant to your question is that there are two kinds of "soul" that people have - the "soul" that contains their personality and awareness and will, and the "soul" that animates the body but has no awareness or personality or will of its own. The latter type was key to constructiong Mouryoumaru, if I remember correctly. Presumably, while Kikyou managed to hang onto the fraction of Kagome's personality-soul that retained her memories from her life as Kikyou, she needs to collect bits of animation-soul from others to keep her clay body functioning.
