Does Rumiko Takahashi expect us to root for such an ass hole? I'm waiting for the moment Shippo finally punches HIM in the skull. He really deserves it.

he's a lovable jerk with good intentions (most of the time). I don't know where you are in the series, but there are moments that downright make you smile because of Inuyasha's generosity.
A part of Inuyasha's (series) brilliance is they have such a flawed main character that you hate to love, love to hate, but they make it work. Because when you look at him, you're feeling something, aren't you?
