Dub was trash
Why are all the anime English dubs awful?
Complete trash. I had to listen to this in sub. It was so bad.

What did they change in the dub?
Why is OP's post awful?
shareYeah, I only saw a little of the English dub but I really hated the voice acting. It's so much better in Japanese. Why do people have to be so lazy and insular that they can't handle watching something in its intended language with subtitles? But anyway yeah I watched the entire series in Japanese. Absolutely loved it. But I know I wouldn't have liked it nearly as much if i'd only watched it with the English dub. In fact I would have gotten tired of it quickly and lost interest. I'm glad the original Japanese is available so I could enjoy this wonderful series.

Class is Pain 101. Your instructor is Casey Jones
I didn't say all English dubs are bad. I do believe most of them are not as good as the original Japanese. And I do think the Inuyasha dub in particular is, in fact, bad. The only anime I ever saw where I felt the English dub was better than the Japanese original was Dragon Ball Z. A rare exception.
shareIf you mean Dragon Ball Z Kai then yes that's a good dub
The first two attempts were not good.
I have seen plenty of good dubs,it took awhile for them to get with the program but they have. Inuyasha is one of the better ones IMO and there were handful of good dubs ,but during the last several years dubs have gotten way better.
You forgot FMA/FMA Brotherhood. Or, if you haven't seen the series, you have GOT to catch it. The dvd just went out of print, but there are online sources. The dubs are actually better than the subs (never thought I'd say that about any anime). There are others that are just as good as the anime versions (Knights of Sidonia, Psycho Pass and a few others that I can't spell very well, lol), but with most of those I can go either way. FMA is the only one that I watch exclusively in English.
shareNot all. FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood has magnificent dubs. They're one of the few anime dubs where the English voice actors go all out to match the expressions and overly dramatic moments found in Japanese anime.
But you're right. Inuyasha dubs are crap! They mispronounce names (Kag-o-me turns into Ka-go-me and Kirara turns into Kilala...like wtf? Did these people never watch the original before going straight to script?) and lack any emotional emphasis. It's so dead. I watched like 2 episodes in English dub before switching back to sub.
If anyone wants to debate, feel free. However, I'll point out one scene in particular that models what I say. There is an episode where Inuyasha follows Kagome to the modern world and shows up at her school. He's outside the widow scratching with his back legs when a classmate notices the movement (alone with Kagome's stare) and is about to turn around to look. In response, Kagome yells "Siiiiiiittttttt!!!!!" in a prolonged, desperate, and loud show of fear at him being discovered. In the dubbed version, the Kagome actor barely raises her voice and does not extend the command, which has the effect of not only negating Kagome's emotional response but actually leaves the character standing there with her mouth held open and no words coming out. Sloppy. Just sloppy. The one who did the Final Act was a bit better...actually, I noticed that all of them performed a bit better. Makes me wonder if they got in a new director or whatever that really pushed them to stop being so lazy and unprofessional. Still, nowhere near producing the emotional responses effectively. I don't get it. Were they "afraid" of coming off too cheesy. Were they told to tone it down. Did they never watch the Japanese sub version before attempting to dub?
And all of these people who say they love Moneca S. and were actually upset that they replaced her (with a slightly better actress) just baffles me.
