doubles, mirrors, moiders
not much to add to other posts here i've been reading.
i don't agree with the schizophrenia theories, especially those arguments that claim it's indicative of the depths of harry's mental illness that the "good cop" has such a detailed history/personality. seems like a cop out interpretation. if that's the case you could have any number of inconsistencies in a movie then chalk them up to the protagonist's "madness".
what i see mostly is two versions of the same guy. there are 2 separate guys. one represents the life that could've been. the other represents all that potentially good stuff gone wrong. the intersection of the two men and their lives is harry's wife. her death.
claire was pregnant, the good cop had a small child, quinn. good cop was well, a good cop and harry's a pussy's excuse for a cop, a security guard, who's not exactly being commended for anything.
this in addition to the house on the opposite side of the street, all the mirrors and reflections, and a bunch of other stuff i'm missing probably.
