Saw Something on TV last week which helped me understand the movie

I saw this movie a couple of weeks ago and it has fasinated me ever since, but I saw something on TV last week which really made sense and brought the movie into perspective.

There was a documentary on missing persons and the mother of a boy that went missing said:-

"when you don't know what has happened you start looking at everyone in a crowd, sometimes making crazy assumptions about them, you start following them and making up stories in your head. The reason is that you're looking for something - anything to make sense of what happened"

I immediately thought back to the movie and it suddenly made more sense and helped me understand what the character was going through.

Any thoughts?

Yes, there's a French film called

So Long at the Fair (1950)
Directed by Antony Darnborough Terence Fisher

which plays on that very premise.

Also, see the upcoming Jodie Foster film FLIGHTPLAN.
