Is Taken going to have a Season 2?

Anyone know? I'd definately be interested in picking it up, knowing what happened to Allie in the space ships, even a few years later finding out the rest of the story, or finding that there was another experiment close to it, maybe in Europe, of a boy, and mating the two, or having them meet on the ship...?
I dunno...
There needs to be more great stories like this.

Since it ended the way it did, there may be a second mini-series. But I hope not. Sequels almost always suck. The only exceptions are the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th sequels to the original "Planet of The Apes" & the LOTR trilogy.

reply

Come on now, but we all knew lotr was going to have sequels.... it was guarenteed sucess. Lets just wait and see for the hobbit!

And "Samarillion" Prequel to "The Hobbit"

Simallarion is more like a bible for middle earth.

Please learn the difference between a sequel and a next part of a planned multi-volume story.

Lord of the Rings has 3 parts, Two Towers and Return of the King are not sequels.

reply

Yes. But in the bonus disc, they are referred to as sequels & Return Of The King starts where The Two Towers ends I believe. Or maybe its The Two Towers starts where Fellowship Of The Ring ends

reply

Who said they were sequels??
Clearly if you read the messages nobody refers to any part of the trilogy as a sequel.

Of course Hobbit would be classed as a Sequel, or Prequel rather, considering whist its part of the same story it wasn't part of the trilogy (go figure - trilogy = three)

The question is - will it be another King Kong, or Home Alone 3??

"Sequels almost always suck. The only exceptions are the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th sequels to the original "Planet of The Apes" & the LOTR trilogy."

Claims:
1. Sequels almost always suck.
2. There are only the listed exceptions (implies they are exceptions of rule 1)
3. The exceptions being PotA 2, 3 and 4, and the LOTR trilogy.

I actually didn't like the first sequel to the original P.O.T.A. (Beneath The Planet of The Apes) but I liked the other 3 sequels

Those are the *only* exceptions?

Star Wars: Episode V and VI didn't suck. Yes, Episode V was a sequel. Originally Lucas only meant to do the 'A New Hope' movie to gather some funds for his other projects, but when the audience came to love it, he felt he had to finish the story. That's why 'A New Hope' seems like a stand-alone movie compared to the other episodes.

As for less dramatic movies, 'Home Alone 2' actually had me laughing out just as much as the first. Timeless and epic movies that belong just as much to Christmas as 'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation' and 'A Christmas Carol'.

Aliens (Alien 2) is also one of those sequels I tend to prefer over the original. Same with Terminator 2 and Rambo 2.

Just to name a few.

And dont forget Godfather 2

"A miniseries (also mini-series) is a television show production which tells a single story in a limited number of episodes. The number of episodes is variable; however, they are usually limited to fewer than a whole season (13 weeks)."

This was a miniseries, not a series. Once it reaches it's end, that is it. There are no seasons in a miniseries, otherwise it would just be a series.

Recently, I was also pondering the same thing such as if LESLIE BOHEM ever writes a sequel, or follow up story to her mini-series & novel "TAKEN," in which direction should she take the story? Do we continue where it left off, pick up ten-years later, bring back Dakota Fanning, or replace her with her younger sister, who kinda resembles her abit and could pass for a pre-teen 'Allie' rather than a mid-teens 'Dakota?' Should this new story be another 10-2hr episodes long mini-series, or shorten it to just 5-2hrs episodes? What were the aliens ultimate goal in creating 'Allie?' And you gotta admit the ending to this mini-series did end with a cliffhanger stating: "she'll be back."

I say to keep Dakota. It could easley be written so that it takes place several years later, so she will still be the same age as her character.

I know everybody talks about how much Dakota & Elle look alike, but I just don't see it any more than any other two cute blonde girls look alike. I think if Les Boheim was going to write a sequel, he would have done it already. If Allie did come back, it probably wouldn't be right away in earth time. Remember the guy at the UFO confrence telling Sally "Their time & ours are not the same"? I think it would be a mistake to have anyone but Dakota play Allie in a sequel. With the possible exception of Elisabeth Rohm if Allie were to come back as an adult. But if they did that, they would probably have to use a completely different cast & the continuity would be shot. Making the whole project a disaster in my opinion

reply

I hope not. This series was ok, but not something wonderful. Too much padding during the second half made it hard to watch. and I agree sequels always suck, so better to leave this series alone and go for a new idea.

reply

In response to an earlier poster. You don't think the Bourne sequels were fantastic?

THATS ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN, ONE GIANT LEAP FOR MAN KIND.....SPACE, THE FINAL FRONTIER!

reply

As far as I know, there are no plans for a sequel & personally, I hope it stays that way.

reply

Leave it as it is. They kinda revealed too much at the ending of this season, so I doubt that they will do any good in a second installment.

And since you know you cannot see yourself,
so well as by reflection,

Hope not for the sake of SF idea...

GOOD SEQUELS
Lord Of The Rings 2 & 3
Jaws 2
Poltergeist 2 or 3 (The one with Will Sampson & Julian Beck)
The Omen 2 & 3
Breakin' 2
Rocky 4
Arthur 2
BAD SEQUELS
All others

My list of good sequels does contain 9 movies, but keep in mind 2 things:
1)That is an extremely low percentage of the total number of sequels ever made
2)They are all sequels to movies. "TAKEN" is a mini-series with a large cast(most of which probably wouldn't return even if needed), that(more importantly) ended well beyond the most interesting period in the whole U.F.O/alien abduction phenomenon

I would love another Taken. But Mini-series are just mini-series not a series. Know what I mean? They need to make another mini-series that is kind of a cross between Taken and The Lost Room, that would be awsome.

Good Lord! ...I've never seen so many people take a thread off-subject!

The question is: will "Taken" be taken further?

Does anyone, maybe someone inside the industry, have any hints for us? Please, do share any news, yea or ney, with us.

Has it been pitched by anyone? I should think an IMDb rating of 7.8% would generate some interest.

Perhaps a prequil mini-series (how long ago in human history did the visits start)?

Perhaps a sequel mini-series (Dakota and the rest of the cast are about the right age now to continue their destinies without aging makeup)?

Perhaps both.

Has any interest been expressed by Spielberg, Bohem, DreamWorks, or SciFi?

Thank you to any real contributors.

reply

@ericfurrer: By a prequel, do you mean going with the Eric Von Daniken theory of ancient alien visitors? That could be interesting if it showed something like the Atlantians were products of alien/human breeding

reply

Creative thinking, to be sure, but I really wasn't trying to elicit off-subject plot tangents and I don't think the O.P. really was either. Just a desire to know if there will be more of Taken ...

I was hoping to elicit info from any industry-insiders who may really know things: progress or failures at getting more Taken off the ground.

Thank you

prequel won't really work unless we are going to retcon what John said (he stumbled upon this long lost "primitive" part of them called emotion).

a sequel could be an amazing trip into the alien society from Allie's point of view, continuing her vocal journaling thing (which i find oddly calming, despite how voiceovers generally seem cheesy and overdone). just imagine an emotionless perfect society of highly evolved, technologically advanced sentient beings... would they truly have no politics? no differences in opinion at all? perfect harmony? or would they have surrendered their creativity and personality? who gives orders? what do they think of John, having done what he did? what did they learn from each abductee?

alternatively, there could be parallel scenes for each abduction we watched in Taken 1. it could be like what The Plan (2008) did for the Battlestar Galactica series. if this "requel" makes season 2, then the whole "Allie in Alienland" sequel would probably be better as a season 3.

regardless of my "creative thinking"... yes, let's get on topic! any insider snoop about possible follow-ups? i would settle for a nice film! whichever Fanning sister it is - i'm in it for Leslie Bohem!
