Hi, I haven't seen the show and I'm wondering if this has good aliens like the movie Close Encounters, or if the aliens are malevolant. The reason is because I do believe these aliens exist, and that they are malevolant, and I don't like to watch films depicting them as helping humans solve their problems, because I think they are one of the reasons we never do.

they are depicted as another living race much like us. you cant say if they are bad or good, similar way you cant say if humans are bad or good. we can act evil sometimes as well as kind in cases. depends on agenda.
they were more advanced than us? sure, their agenda was much like nature. nature is neither good nor bad, its neutral. but at the same time they shared similar things with us. that was a main idea behind it i think. this show is more than just about aliens. its about life, philosophy and questions we ask. thats why its a must see. its better this way than one dimensional evil or kind aliens that we are all used to seeing in nowadays films.
I think the whole point is that they're neither "good" nor "bad".
Matt Frewer's character argues in one of the episodes that since they are alien their motivations and actions are by defnition "alien" too.
Charlie Keys and Lisa Clarke also constantly disagree in the show whether the aliens are ultimately a force of good or evil. Charlie hates them as abductors, while Lisa sees them as her guardian angels.
I assume you saw ET.
They're nowhere near that nice.
