Think about it this way…if a large number of people were taken from the same town at the same time; this would be the story of those they left behind.
More like "inverse" than "similar"...but in the same vein.

Ummm The Leftovers is definitely a fantastic show. It's actually my favorite series on tv right now. And I was also a HUGE fan of Taken... but I do not see any similarities between the two...
