Season 4 - Extremely Disappointing Premiere

OH and I was so disappointed with the season four premiere of The Secret Life of Us - where the hell have half the original cast gone? Gabby? Richie? And what about Tidy & Chloe? There's all these new faces that are completely unlikeable! I could kill that moll with the cat - at least the cat died. The only original characters left are Deb Mailman, Evan & the gay bartender (who did nothing this episode), oh and that blonde dude (who looks better after cutting that awful martin bryant/paedophile hair off). Seriously this show is doomed - we need Karvan & Gabby back. Man I'm pissed.

Good luck channel 10

you don't wanna know.
christian used to frighten me so much. i hated his martin bryant look. thank god it's gone now; i found him quite difficult to watch.

did they just disappear off the face of tslou? i miss them - that was the romance that i was loving at the end of last season.

and yeh i really am not liking the new characters. i want alex and rex and gab to all come back.

although i do love bree - she is great. i love brooke harmon.

reply

i'm guessing you just watched tonight's episode! hehe.
evan is apparently leaving now!!

i miss tidy, gab and ritchie so much- at least they could keep the show going after alex left. now it's annoying.

that cat chick pisses me off.
although i was really sad for the dog being taken away.
has talia left the show for good now?

oh and to answer your question
- i have no idea where they went.

yeh no mention at all - its like a big pink elephant in the room that no one is talking about.

dont you think it just feels totally different to the first season - like bad different - no will miranda oh sob.

and yeh about evan - i read an article in the paper that said samuel johnston wants to get off the sinking ship - quote unquote semi paraphrased u get my drift.

Gab went to Canberra, being in politics and all. Tidy, naturally, went with her. And Chloe, being Gab's campaign manager or whatever, also went with her. Meanwhile, Richie got acting work in Japan.

The cat chick is annoying, but Nikki has brought some real tension into the show. She's got that "such a bitch but you can't help but liking her" thing down. And Bree is a breath of fresh air.

Overall, it's probably not going to reach the heights that it once did, but it's still better than 99% of the crud that's on tv at the moment. Another episode of "The Resort", anyone????

I love this show, we are only on the third series here in the UK. After Alex went wherever, Gab was my favourite character. I dont believe she is leaving. And Evan is going too. So that leaves Kelly and Christian, and Simon. My guess is that this show wont go anywhere after the 4th season, which is a shame, because the original lineup was so good!!

Someone mentioned that it's gone downhill since the 2nd series, and I'd have to agree. Why? Because Will left.

Kelly mentioned that "you're the glue that holds us all together", and Will denied it, but it was true. When he left it all fell apart.

On the other hand Joel Edgerton's gone into movies, but Will was by far the best, most interesting character on TSLOU.

I used to love Kelly. kelly was a wonderful character when she was a "breath of fresh air", not the focus of the show. Now the show seems to all be Kelly voice-overing about boring psychology stuff and wandering the streets of st. kilda reading textbooks on her way to Melbourne/Monash/whatever university they're filming at this week.
Actually, you could kinda mark the decline of the show by Kelly's uni. In the days when Kelly used to sit in the middle of the Law Quad at Melbourne (which no self-respecting, or barrier-respecting melbourne uni student would do) or, when in a bad mood, walk past Bullwinkles, the show could still hold its own. When she used to sit infront of the weird art-sculpture-building-thingy at Monash the show was faltering....and now, well, who knows. is she going to RMIT this season?
Sam Johnson isn't even trying anymore, and I'm not even listening to the show, whenever I bother watching it/whenever ten can be bothered screening it. I don't blame them for axing it, I don't blame them for constantly taking it off air and I don't blame most of the cast from running away from what used to be a well written, unique show but has morphed into a pretentious parody of its former self.
Remember Will after Sam died? When he complained to Alex about everyone saying sorry, and Evan could only get through to him with humour, and he threw up outside Sam's apartment, and got himself beaten up on purpose because he blamed himself for her death?
Remember when Richie told Miranda about wheat happened with Simon? Remember how they kept living together and torturing each other and very nearly destroyed their friendship forever?
Remember when Evan got his heart broken by the older woman? Remember when Gab found out about Alex and Jason?
Remember when Alex and Gab used to go swimming?
Oh, the good old days. i used to love that show.
now....I have to say.....I actually hate it. Run Samuel, RUN!!!

You've so hit the nail on the head with that last post ! I loved Series 1 and 2 then it just started to go down and down hill gathering momentum, christ it used to be a fun show i the first two series not the morbid, musings and meanderings of the later series !

You're all pretty much spot on to be honest. I loved series one, and imported it on DVD from Australia.

I couldn't watch series 2, because the start of the series was just too pretentious. It seemed fathomnable that Alex would be pissed off about not having heard much from Evan for three months, but then when her character went out, got pissed and then slept with a new bloke all in the course of one episode, the show began to struggle with suspending belief!

If you're after a quality TV show, try out Southern Star's newer production, Love My Way, which has been put together by the original writers and producers of The Secret Life Of Us, and Claudia Karvan has gotten involved in the writing, production and direction and such forth. It helps that she's also starring in it!

I'm in the UK here and I'm in contact with Southern Star trying to ascertain whether or not they're actually planning to air the series in the UK at all or release it on DVD.

Here's to hoping!

Last night I happened to watch an episode on season 4 for the 1st time (the show hadn't been running here for about 3 months),and it couldn't be more boring.... it was sth like "The heart of friday night", but man! can't they make up some other storyline other than guys with dead (ex)-girlfriends!!!??
There was a similar storyline with Will and Sam, just one is ok but now this Justin guy playing the drama king for dumping his g/f before she committed suicide and not being present at her funeral, give me a break...!!

I used to enjoy seasons 2 & 3, esp. with this young cuties' threesome like Christian, Chloe and Miranda having fun together, singing, having dinner, going down to the beach skinny dipping (lol)...
Too bad they left the show, as well as Evan, Gabrielle and Tidy..... It's not the same now....
