Was Mark infected before beeing killed by Selena?

Even if he had a wound on his arm, we don’t see him getting bitten, and even half a minute after the attack, just before angry chick kills him with a machete, he was showing no symptoms of an infection.
When others got infected it took no more than 5 seconds to turn them into raging "zombies".
So yeah, my guess would be, he cut himself either with his knife or with that glass laying around and then she killed him even though he wasn’t infected.

I'm not sure about the 5 second rule though, Selena says it says between 10-15 while I remember Hannahs dad taking a while longer.

It's ambiguous and left to the viewer as to whether or not he was in fact infected, to empathize Salenas ruthless state of mind (that she didn't even wait and see).

I think he could of been, Selena is the expert and says she could see it in his eyes he knew he was infected, perhaps he saw infected blood come into contact with his? Either way not sure.

It's real simple:

1.- Mark had a BIG cut on his foreman, which was covered in blood (most likely not his own)
2.- Mark was clearly terrified upon seeing his cut.
3.- Since Mark is bigger/stronger than Selena, she could not risk waiting 20 seconds in case he was indeed not infected. She would not stand a chance if he charged her.
4.- They both have killed enough people to become functional sociopaths.

If you compare Mark's reaction with Frank/Dad's reaction, both reacted the same within the roughly same span of time: confusion (first five/ten seconds), slow realisation (five/ten seconds) and on the edge of defensive/aggressive (five seconds).

Good analysis, mcvillain. OP, every time I watch this film, I keep wondering the same. When I first saw it, I didn't think he was. Selena had to be sure and of course Mark didn't want to die. She said it herself that she wasn't sure but there's a limited amount to react and she had to make the judgment call.

This is right.. it was to show how ruthless Selena was. She didn't care who you are. She was going to kill you if she knew you were infected. That all changed when she met Jim, Hannah and her father.. They taught her that surviving means squat if you don't have anyone you care and love to survive with.. As for Mark, the look on his face didn't mean he was infected. He could have been, not sure if it was a bite or cut but that didn't matter.. I think he had a pack with Selena that if one was bitten. One would kill that other. So Mark knew what was coming if Selena thought he was infected.

It feels like a burning sensation when infected blood meets your blood and the look of terror in your eyes kicks in. But yeah it could have been a mistake but who wants to wait to find out.
