Question About Mark

28 Days Later is on and it's making me wonder..did Selena needlessly murder Mark when they were at Jim's house? Mark was bleeding, but it looked like it was from a cut and well after the amount of time that it took people to "change" from the virus.

I actually think it was Jim that got Mark "needlessly" killed. If not for Jim lighting the candle and drawing attention to the house, they wouldn't have had to save him and Mark wouldn't have become infected.

But Selena says she saw it in Mark's eyes (or face) that he had been infected. On screen, Mark acts kind of suspicious--by facing away from them at first. He doesn't make the statement that he's been slashed or cut, he quietly tries to prevent his injuries from become obvious. I would have been very apparent up front had I known I had been cut. Especially, knowing Selena's M. O.

I think Selena's MO is why he was trying to hide it. He knew she wouldn't take any chances and just kill him outright. And I agree with you about Jim, he was just so completely naive...

I think the OP is correct, based on everything else in the movie he would have turned long before then. When the Dad gets a drop of blood in his eye he was showing some changes within a few seconds. It was several seconds before she even looked at Mark.

Does history record any case in which the majority was right?

Probably yes, she did murder him. She had no good evidence upon which to conclude that he had been infected or that he had begun to turn. And yet, she went ahead and whacked him, anyway. That's murder.

But that's perfectly understandable when you're paranoid, scared sh*tless, and conditioned to kill or be killed. Selena had a hairpin trigger, and she had just witnessed ANOTHER Rager attack in very close proximity to her. The way these things moved, it was extremely scary. And so, when she finally saw the wound, she lashed out--unnecessarily.

Poor Mark.
