At the beginning...Jim being naked? :p

Ok, was it really necessary to show him fully naked? They sure as heck do not do that in 'hostipal'!!!

Im not complaining about that scene btw ;) Im just curious :)

It's an homage to the Australian film, The Quiet Earth. That film contains a similar overhead shot of actor Bruno Lawrence lying in his bed (although his genitals are strategically concealed by shadows).

I'm glad that Cillian Murphy decided to bare all. His penis is a gift to humanity.

The Quiet Earth is a New Zealand film.

I think it was to show his complete vulnerability. But the worst plot device ever was allowing him to find an outfit in a building now devoid of almost everything useful, thus robbing us of a bit more of Cillian in hs full technicolour glory

Yes. He should have been nude throughout the entire film. I would have loved to have seen his succulent man-meat swinging about during action scenes. That would have been extraordinary.

He was probably naked because the doctors didn't know the extent of his damages and had to cut his clothes. Looking at it he was probably bleeding quite severely. He had a huge scar on his head. In the panic, everyone left the hospital, hence he wasn't dressed in a gown.

reply

It was to keep Jim from overheating and getting bedsores while in a coma. Maybe he wanted to show off? How come they didn't leave his clothes behind, oh right they cut them off in the ER, yeah yeah yeah.

Uh baby U 4got to pull out. 9 months later, can U pull this ucking baby outta me, do that @ least!

reply

but why no sheets? Besides, the scene is clearly post surgery as he has a craniotomy scar.Yes they cut off clothes in A and E but when I worked in ITU we didn't nurse people naked

reply

For aesthetics purpose, perhaps? He looked like a vulnerable Jesus painting, but resurrecting (sp? sorry for my poor English) after that he enters into another painting when visiting that evil church wich looked like a Bruegel nightmare.

Also, Jim being naked might give you an idea of the chaos outside, I imagine nurses cleaning/treating a patient and they have to runaway asap because the rage infection just kicked in the hospital.

reply

Maybe he was a nude bicyclist before he got to the hospital.

Or lived in a nudist colony. 

reply

It really is what you call gratuitous nudity.

reply

For F sakes.

Does no one paying attention to the directors commentary.
He is nude because it is suppose to symbolize that he was born into a new world as we are BORN NAKED.

God pay attention.

reply

Why would you assume people watched this on DVD? Much less listened to the commentary?
