Is this the first movie to do "infected" instead of "zombies"?

Is this the first film that featured "infected" creatures, obviously zombie-like but not in the traditional undead brain eating sense from films like Dawn of the Dead.

No. There's "Creature (Titan Find)", which was released in 1985.
