No future? Really?

The soldiers going feral this soon is ridiculous. Of course there's a future.

The infected are going to die, and in quick time. There are going to be survivors. Lots of them. Anyone with half a brain could work that out, but apparently not this CO or his dopey men.

This is kind of an insult to the British army.

Well it was just one unit - or what´s was left of it.

And nobody had an idea, that infected ones would die after a month. If they did, why to put quarantine on whole island.

Soldiers in the movie represent man´s darker side when society collapses. It´s not fiction that some people will turn into looting, raping and killing when s*it hits the fan.

What really got me scratching my head though, was the co's willingness to let them cave in to the idea that there's no future and so it's perfectly ok to drop any semblance of civilisation.

He should have been telling them to pull their heads in and giving them inspiration if not threats of harsh repercussions to keep them in line.

Perhaps try to convince them that imprisoning and raping women and girls is not an ideal 'future'.

Maybe just order them to have a damn good wank, something most soldiers, by necessity, should be adept at.

I suppose we have to conclude he was just as rapey as the rest of them.

Yes, some people. But I would hope that members of the army would have more self-discipline than the average person, and not resort to raping kids after 28 days.

I REALLY hope that.

Even some men in the army, whether it's American or British, are animals.

Yes. Man's darker side. Not woman's. It's always men that are bad.

I'm pretty sure the term "man" here implies mankind not gender specific.

Not necessarily. When civilization breaks down almost completely over a month, who knows how people will react. Not all the soldiers reacted the same way (e.g. Farrell) and even West was on the money, talking about waiting for the infected to start dying of hunger. Of course keeping Mailer as a house pet, was always going to be asking for trouble.🐭

It's been a while since I've seen it but didn't the leader say something about catching a soldier with his gun in his mouth and the soldier said whats the point in surviving they haven't seen anyone especially women in weeks and they think it's world wide plus they don't know how long it takes for infected to die off. So the leader made an empty promise thinking everyone else was dead he said he would find women and keep the human race alive like the leader said what do a group of men do when they're the only ones left even if infected die off what do men do without women but wait to die themselves, they can't repopulate the world without women.

You are talking about the world, not the British Isles.

At this point the people (especially military), would have to be pretty dumb to imagine this was a worldwide problem. On what basis was that built on?

It was an excuse to rape women knowing that there would be no consequences.

Without laws and civilisation, people behave like animals because they believe there are no consequences to face. Major West tried to maintain civility among his men but he was condoning the use of both Selena and Hannah as the property of his platoon and for the survival of society when in actual fact he just wanted to appease his men by allowing them to rape them - even though one was a CHILD.

Well, it didn't look like the British army was receiving any kind of outside support or assistance. It basically looked like a group of soldiers, hiding away from the infected. There actually wasn't that many soldiers to begin with. Maybe they didn't see help coming anytime soon. In a situation like that, it would be difficult to stay positive and optimistic. This isn't exactly like a natural disaster or world war scenario. We're talking about the infected roaming around the streets. The entire population had been thoroughly reduced. That's not your average apocalyptic scenario.
