5.3?!?!?!?!?!?!

Insulting, especially considering the 2004 Punisher has 6.5 and the original Fantastic Four has a 5.7.

Even if it's just based off the theatrical cut, this is ridiculous. Barring Ghost Rider and it's sequel, and spinoff Elektra, this seems to be the lowest-rated Marvel movie.

reply

I agree, this is much better than its rating..I don't know why people dislike this so much.

reply

Daredevil has a 5.3 rating because all of the irrational and viral hatred for Ben Affleck. Most people lack the ability to think for themselves, and will hate whomever and whatever they are told to hate (i.e. Nickelback, Ben Affleck, Gigli, Transformers, etc..) Just enjoy whatever you want, and don't give a *beep* what the mindless drones have to say.

reply

Disdain toward all of those things that you just mentioned is hardly irrational.

Haven't seen Gigli (and never will), but the other three things that you just mentioned deserve their negative reputations.

Opinions, are of course subjective, but the fact that the examples mentioned are held up and hated as icons of "the worst of the worst," is what is irrational. If you think that Ben Affleck is one of the worst actors in the industry, or that Nickelback is one the worst bands of all time, then you are either being disingenuous or controlled by mindless groupthink. Gigli, while not being a great film, is undeserving of criticism by those, who like you, have never even seen it. The reasons for it's reputation as "one of the worst films of the 21st century" have nothing to do with the actual film itself, but rather the irrational, and viral, hatred generated by elitist critics with an agenda.

reply

Exactly. This movie simply came out at a time when it was the "trendy" thing to do to hate Ben Affleck. I wouldn't say it was particularly irrational, because his reputation back then sort of called for the hatred: his playboy reputation, his gambling, the drugs, his ridiculous appearance in a JLo video, the way he carried himself back then (he radiated arrogance), etc. But I do agree that people seem unable to separate the actor from the material. Hate Ben Affleck, by all means, but the Daredevil movie didn't deserve to get panned just because of the reputation of one of its actors.

I think you're probably right. He went through a difficult period at one stage. It's pretty evident though to most sane thinking individuals, that the guy, besides acting, can also write and direct. He's obviously very creative.🐭

reply

I would give Daredevil a 7.5/10 It really was not bad,it had a good cast and the action scenes were good

If anything 5.3 is generous. The theatrical cut of this movie is cringe-worthy and even unwatchable at times. The fight scene in the playground alone warrants this movie at least a 5.0.

At least other crappy superhero movies like Superman IV and Batman and Robin can be laughted at for their campiness and their "it's so bad it's good" effect. Daredevil is a different kind of bad movie.

I loved that sequence in the movie and post just to point out ... they were deliberately "playfighting" in a playground, not trying to hurt one another, rather actually getting to know one another. 🐭

reply

Maybe it's at 5.3 because it's just a bad movie. Not everyone hates the movie because Affleck is in it.
