It's produced by Chinese. So I think few of people have watched it out of China. That's the reason! It has DVD, rent and watch it. Very good movie!

reply

I thought it was terrible. Very terrible.
Don't waste your time.

It made $646 in its American release. I think that says about all you need to know.

reply

I agree to it.It's a waste of time!

reply

Have to agree, it was pretty terrible. It did improve a lot towards the end of the film, though. I'd say the first half is a 1/10 and the second half is 6/10.

Why was Donald Sutherland in this rubbish?

this movie is made for chinese audience only

u americans better go watch something like the banquet instead, coz this one is beyond u

I enjoyed this movie so much until I bought me a copy. I love Asian and French films. They seem to have so much more to offer and has a great range of imagination and creativity. That's just my take on the movie industry. Great little film. See it with an open creative mind though. You would almost have to work in this business to truly understand the concept I believe.

Hmm, I just watched this on the CBC here in Canada, and I kinda
liked it! It's def. not for everyone, and it does help quite a
bit to have been in Asia, as well as work in the entertainment
"biz" I've not spent much time in China, but a few years in both
Japan and S. Korea, and most of the themes in this film translate
well across Asian borders. And I had some really big laughing
out loud moments, and I can't understand how anyone would not
laugh at the lunacy of producing a funeral as if was a Celine
Dion or or worse, a Michael Jackson concert!! For Western
audiences, it does have a few things going against it, like the
sub-titling which I actually like, but most folks don't. And
there are a few cultural issues that might rub Westerners the
wrong way, such as discussing whether Tyler's re-incarnation
should come back as a "black African" baby. Anyway, I think
more folks could enjoy this film in the west, it's just that
it's not likely to be shown outside of a CBC late movie...
And also, it got to be a bit long for me. The first half hour
or so with the interaction between Tyler and the cameraman
were the best, and once the "jump" was made to producing
the funeral, well, I liked the first act the best.

So,
my $.0002

It was shown on Belgian TV.

Not sure why, but it was.

2/10

I am not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

reply

I only saw it a couple of weeks ago, and... it wasn't particularly good or bad, it just kinda... was.

So I think its level of popularity is deserved.

You can't hate me. I'm your better.

I love Chinese movies in general. But this was not one of the ones I liked. I only saw 15 min worth on television and that was enough. It has a "hong kong" sense of humour to it which can be cheesy and humourous at its best, and groan worthy nauseating at its worst. this one had too much of the latter.

Only noteworthy thing is seeing Rosamund Kwan still looking attractive while more mature than her Wong Fei Hung days.

reply

Yes, I think it is great movie and i am not Chinese

In a nutshell: A clever theater of the absurd.
I wouldn't trudge through a snowstorm to see it again, but it was funny enough to get my recommendation for a view.
