QUESTION

When Ian calls the Dashwoods' house, and says he is looking for Daphne, how did he get their phone number in the first place? It's not like you can just yellow page the home of a wealthy British politician running for office and call his house. (Or maybe you can...???) And I doubt Daphne would've known, since she just got there...

It's not like he called the same day that she got there; she could've easily found out by then & told him.

reply

That always bugged me, too.

ALSO, I found it strange that Clarissa answered the phone at Dashwood manor. There must be a servant or perhaps a secretary that would do that.

In any event.......I believe the purpose of the scene was to develop the character of Clarissa.

What a great opportunity to show her being a meddlesome stinker to Daphne!

reply

they filmed and added that scene after they'd completed most of the movie. (directors commentary on the dvd states this) thats why it seems a bit odd.

reply

I watched with the director's commentary after I posted (above). Gosh, I'm sooooo clever! LOL!

I think the commentary by Amanda Bynes is so fun. She does a great job.
