I feel The Shield is criminally underrated. All the lists/Rankings give more appreciation to Breaking Bad/Sopranos/GoT/Wire, but The Shied is right up there and in my opinion above them! 7 seasons of pure Action,Thrill and Brutal Drama without any dip in quality.
It should be number one.

shareI think it's underrated also. Mainly because there are numerous characters in the show that you truly care about. Whereas in BB, the only characters of consequence are Walt and Jessie for the most part. Most of the other characters like Walt Jr, and his wife and brother are just not that interesting.
For me, The Shield, I was very interested in Vic, Shane, Lem, Dutch, Claudette, Ascevada, Ronnie to some extent, and even Corrine and Danni.

It is considered to be one of the best shows of all time, by both critics and fans. It's just underrated because it deserves to be right there toward the top on most lists.
My top 3 dramas are The Shield, Justified (Goggins is the best!) and Six Feet Under. All of which I feel are criminally underrated and much better than the shows typically at the top of the lists, though I haven't seen past S1 of The Wire.

The Shield without a doubt is my favorite show of all time though.
