Symbolism of bird during sex scene

I never got it. Can anyone solve this?

The caged bird represented the primal desire of Hank and Leticia, i.e. desire for sex trapped in social/human setup.

The hand releasing the bird represented their common grief which helped them escape from that cage and engage in sexual freedom with no barriers.

The bird fluttered to gain freedom which the hand got it.

The characters desired sex which their grief and alcohol helped them to overcome any mental barriers they might have had. In these moments of intimacy, they experienced bliss and escape from pain and grief and they became animals for this brief time.
Makes sense?
