Chemistry box (spoilers, if there is such a thing in this movie)

Im about 20 mins in and his dad, grandma and dahmer are all in his room where he has the chem box.. He finally gets his dad out of the room and opens the box where there is a head..

Was that head human or the maniqueins? I noticed it had no head and wasnt sure....It was a little hard to tell with reynolds wrap on it, than again im typing this w.o finishing the movie just yet.. thanks!

It was a head of a real human being, based on the real events of his life.

I must have missed this story about him keeping a head in a box because I kept thinking the chemistry box was going to have something todo with his acid obsession. He would pour acid into drilled heads as an experiment and would try to dissolve many bodies in it as well. They never showed any of his activities with acid or the barrels he supposedly had in his apartment.
