Did whoever is behind the cube project dismantle the old Cube and replace it with the Hypercube? Or are the Cube and the Hypercube two different projects?

i'm just gonna pretend the hypercube doesn't exist and that i never saw this awful movie. this "hypercube" is so far out of reach and doesn't fit in with the other two cube movies.
