I just watched the second one on nexflix instant view. It was ok but I'm not sure if I should get the first one. Is the first better than this?

The first one is infinitely better than the second one, imo. I found the characters in the second one irritating.

Yes, and by miles.
The original is an impressive film made on a shoe string budget. Hypercube fails on all fronts: messy storytelling, terrible acting and cheap and unnecessary CGI.

The first one is good as a thriller and the acting and writing is better. I would have liked the second one more if it continued some of the ideas in the first one, but instead the second one adds things that kind of go against ideas from the first one since it kind of shows who is behind the hybercube and possibley the first cube.
