One important question that I need urgently answered.
How the ƒuck is "Sasha" short for "Alexandra"?
I mean, at least in the "Bill/William" situation, Bill rhymes with Will so it sort of makes sense, and "Jim/James" sort of makes sense because "Jim" is similar to "Jam", but I cannot begin to fathom how anybody could get "Sasha" out of Alexandra..
I did some research and every website I find explains that "Sasha" is the "diminutive" or "abbreviated form" of Alexander/Alexandra, but none of them explain how and why this is so.
One website explained other names, like Natalia and how Natasha and many other names are the "abbreviated/diminutive" forms of Natalia, but they will all share the root 'Nat'.
Using this logic, there is no connection between "Alexandra" and "Sasha", so it makes absolutely no sense. Pretty much every website I find just says "That's what it is because that's what it is."
I was hoping that maybe somebody here was more knowledgeable about the subject and could help me out.
