If the "collapse in on itself" was a constant, then there wouldn't be enough time for any bodies to decompose, but then I realized about the "accelerated time" thing.

It was more than just an accelerated-time area. At some point, it also became a zero-G area, as well. So whatever the room was, it changed over time.

Perhaps another change happened within the room after they hooked up that made them die right afterward, before they even had time to break their embrace and put their clothes back on.

That was one hell of an anticlimactic afterglow!
