Alcoholic Cheyenne

I found it EXTREMELY tacky that they made Cheyenne an alcoholic on this show.

It'd not the fact that she's an alcohilic that is tacky. It's the way they introduced her as one and handled the situation. The jokes were classless and insulting to people who truly suffer from this addiction.

It's not a laughing matter.
25 minutes of jokes about AA meetings and and struggling with Alcohol...and 5 minutes (at the end) of actually understanding how serious the addiction is.

Pathetic.

Lost respect for the show

I hate how they made Cheyenne treat it like every thing else. She wanted to go the meetings and talk about herself (not about her drinking) and then she starts blowing off the meetings and popping a pill so she won't drink. And then when Reba gets sick from drinking after taking the pill, Cheyenne still acts like the whole thing is a big joke and naturally gets all mad when her mother tells her to straighten up and go to the meetings. Most spoiled character ever on TV, I think.

I don't think there's much argument that Cheyenne was a completely spoilt brat who expected to be the center of attention every moment. They did end up doing an entire arc about Kira's resentment of the situation coming to a head when Cheyenne screwed up her college schedule by dropping classes, and the end result was that Kira lost out on a well-deserved trip to England because Cheyenne needed to money to stay in school and provide for Elizabeth's daycare.

Cheyenne was definitely a character in need of a bitch-slap....or several. Her parents did her no favors bailing her ass out all the time. It might've been better if they'd dumped her on it and told her to figure out her own life.

I like the show, but their methods of handling serious issues often did not work for me. This plot was one. The Hurricane Katrina episode was another.

I tend to agree. Granted it is a sitcom so it's important for things to be funny, but I believe it should've been dealt with a little more seriousness.

I hated it because she wasn't an alcoholic in the first place .

To be fair, Barbara Jean (of all people) was the one to point out that Cheyenne might not actually have a problem, that she had a tendency to drama queen everything. Reba agreed, but went with the theory that it might be better to take what not might be a problem and take it seriously, rather than risk it not really being a problem and everybody blowing it off.
