I have the vaguest memory of it-there's a celebration of some kind (a wedding, I think) being held in a big tree, and one of the gnomes is kidnapped.

I remember it very well, since I saw it several times as a kid. It's seperate from this series, but based on the same book, and is in TV limbo cause of copyright issues. http://akas.imdb.com/title/tt0343727/

It's The Wedding That Almost Wasn't. I have a VHS tape of it along with Rabbits, Rabbits Everywhere.
