In the movie, they speak about the No Exception rule regarding strangers who find them. I'm assuming it means that they kill them, though they never say so outright; it is a Disney movie, after all.
So my question is, in the book, is that the rule?
"Now, bring me that horizon."
i'm not sure what they actually do, but im sure that they dont kill them.

As I recall, there is no "rule" in the book. When Mae, Miles and Jesse find Winnie by the spring, they just kind of panic and throw her on the horse to take her home, so they can keep her away from the spring until they can figure out what to do. In fact, I think Miles says something along the lines of "We should have had a plan for this, we should have known it would happen eventually."
I also was confused about the "rule" thing, since I can't picture the Tucks killing innocent people, and when Winnie was brought back to their house they obviously had no clue what to do with her. I guess I just assumed the "rule" was that they couldn't let anybody who was suspicious about the spring go, for fear that they would try to drink from it or tell somebody about it.
I thought the rule was that if they saw anybody near the spring, they would kidnap him or her until they were sure it was safe to let the person go. If Miles thought the rule was that they had to kill the person, he wouldn't have taken Winnie to his home.
