Why does Jesse wait so long... * SPOILERS *

I wondered why Jesse waited 85+ years before he went back to the tree? I'm assuming the film was mostly set around 1914 and he visited the gravestone in at least 1999 or maybe a few years after.

The movie was set in the late 1800's and early 1900's. He waited so long because he needed to stay in hiding

Idk but that's what happened in the book
